BONUS: What to Do When You Meet Resistance
Video Transcript:
Resistance At the Stores
- You can be the most ethical, conscientious couponer in the world, but you will still likely encounter resistance at the stores; remember, some stores have had bad experiences, and others simply are not knowledgeable of how coupons work.
- Do not become discombobulated by hostility or ignorance; keep calm and kindly provide clarity where it is needed.
- Consider profiling your cashier before you choose a register; for instance, young male cashiers are usually the best kind of cashier, because they question almost nothing.
Resistance From Family and Friends
- In some cases, your family and friends will also offer resistance. They might not understand your collection of coupons or your stockpile.
- Give them time; they will become more accepting once they see that you can get their favorite cereal for little or nothing.
- One woman’s husband became very supportive once she got a flat screen TV, and mp3 players for free.
- The longer you coupon, the more your family and friends will realize how beneficial your efforts are. In fact, when they see a particular item running low, they might suggest that it’s time to get some coupons and go shopping.
- Find something that each member of your family likes; it it will help you to get buy-in from them
