GRASPED Extreme Couponing Playbook – Module 7

How to Find Out About Deals

Video Transcript:

Text - Websites / Blogs / Etc.

  • Text-based online information is often given through websites, or blogs, or social media posts that are text-based (i.e., Facebook).
  • The larger, more mainstream sites and accounts give information on everything from how to coupon, to where to locate the current coupons using a database found on the website, to how the latest high value coupons can be used, and which stores have the best deals.
  • The advantage of information in this format, is that the information is written out, in black-and-white, usually with steps you can easily see and read and follow; you don’t need to listen to the deal (which means you don’t need to listen to audio while in the store).

Online Forums

  • While they are not nearly as popular as they once were, it is still possible to find the occasional online forum, which also offers text-based information.
  • Online forums rely on their users to create and drive the majority of the deal information, whereas the websites and blogs mentioned previously are largely driven by the creator/owner of the website.
  • The advantage of the information provided via online forums is that users from all over the country can share what they have found at the stores near them. Websites, of course, employ people from all over the place, but their numbers are a bit more limited.

Image-Based Social Media Accounts

  • Some information is available through apps that are composed of primarily still images, sometimes with a bit of text-based information included (i.e., Instagram).
  • While the advantage of these types of sites is that they allow for a more real-time relaying of information, the downside is that, like all social media accounts, the format of these sites makes it extremely difficult to search for information, or to use the site as a reference.
  • Information available in this format usually allows for more dialogue than the text-based sites.

Video-Based Information

  • One other form of information is video-based (i.e., YouTube, TikTok).
  • Videos are incredibly helpful for talking you through the information you need in order to get the deal. Seeing a deal explained and demonstrated in real-time sometimes makes a huge difference in providing understanding.
  • Like still-image-based apps, being able to use video-based apps means it is virtually impossible to use the app as a searchable reference app.
